Limerick

A limerick is a form of poetry, especially one in five-line anapestic meter with a strict rhyme scheme (AABBA). This means lines 1,2 and 5 rhyme and lines 3 and 4 rhyme. A limerick is often a funny poem with a strong beat. Limericks are very light-hearted poems and can sometimes be utter nonsense. They are great for kids to both read and write as they are short and funny.

Here are examples of Limerick.

                I am not Tony Parker
Who is fond of ankle breaker
But if I’d joined the NBA
With James, Bosh and Wade I play
Miami Heat would be the winner

She was a lot of an extra ordinary
Her voice echoed the whole theater no worry
She said “you’ve got the voice”
Smile and told her kid “an amazing choice!”
How that Lea Salonga so loud yet so lovely
                                                        -by Dara Rose Agnes

A naughty one but not lame
Wiggles its tail every time I came
It follows my back anywhere I go
But barks at those it doesn’t know
I give Milo as its name
                                                        -by Jayson Relos
